Building construction in particular is characterized by a high proportion of manual and craft-based activities. Rising labor costs and a shortage of skilled workers are among the main reasons for steadily increasing construction costs as well as delays and schedule overruns in construction processes.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the most difficult positions to fill in the construction industry is the bricklayer trade. Over the past 25 years, the number of apprentices in the bricklaying trade has fallen by 75%. At the same time, the physically demanding work means that more than half of working bricklayers leave the workforce early due to reduced performance. Many positions now remain unfilled. The shortage of skilled workers that already prevails will intensify further in the coming years due to demographic change. This is increasingly putting pressure on affected construction companies to automate their work processes and relieve their workers. The biggest problem here is the lack of market-ready technical solutions for automated bricklaying. Gr\u00f6tschel GmbH and the <a href=\"https:\/\/tu-dresden.de\/ing\/maschinenwesen\/imd\/bm\">Chair of Construction Machinery at Technische Universit\u00e4t Dresden<\/a> therefore intend to jointly develop, within the proposed project, a construction robotics system for the automated production of masonry.       <\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1542\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/groetschelgruppe.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/wallbot-erstentwurf-max-1542x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8502\" srcset=\"https:\/\/groetschelgruppe.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/wallbot-erstentwurf-max-1542x1024.jpg 1542w, https:\/\/groetschelgruppe.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/wallbot-erstentwurf-max-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/groetschelgruppe.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/wallbot-erstentwurf-max-768x510.jpg 768w, https:\/\/groetschelgruppe.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/wallbot-erstentwurf-max-1536x1020.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/groetschelgruppe.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/wallbot-erstentwurf-max-2048x1360.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1542px) 100vw, 1542px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The planned project aims to develop a practical construction robot for the automated production of masonry from precision blocks and panel elements based on, for example, aerated concrete, clay, calcium silicate and lightweight concrete. The innovative machine concept of our WallBot<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> is based on a holistic solution approach that provides for the automation of the work steps of measuring, cutting, applying thin-bed mortar and laying the blocks, including quality control. This can reduce the required construction time by more than 40% and the necessary personnel deployment by up to 80%.
