Milestones of our company history – over 170 years of Grötschel: from the spark of the forge to the driving force in steel and plant construction.

Johann Gotthelf Grötschel, master blacksmith, buys a plot of land in Straßgräbchen and lays the foundation for a craft tradition of over 170 years with the founding of his forge.

1853

After his death, his widow continues the business. Later, Johann Niemz, also a master blacksmith, takes over the workshop and marries into the family.

1863

Friedrich Wilhelm Grötschel takes over the forge – the family business is continued in the second generation.

1892

Wilhelm Grötschel expands the building – the company grows with new requirements.

1913

The building is extended

With Erwin Grötschel, the fourth generation takes over responsibility. He leads the forge through the post-war period.

1949

The company adapts to the change: focus on repairs, metal fences and individual forge work for agriculture and construction.

1950

Wolfgang Grötschel takes over as the fifth generation. The company is modernized – new technology, new workshops, new orientation.

1991

Founding of Grötschel GmbH – an important step towards professionalism, growth and new business areas.

2008

Groundbreaking ceremony for a new production hall – an expansion with a view to larger projects and modern production processes.

2010

A new production hall for new projects

Sven Grötschel takes over the management. The company is further digitized and strategically realigned.

2013

Wolfgang Grötschel with son Sven Grötschel

Introduction of 3D laser scanning technology, CAD-supported planning and structured quality management – Grötschel becomes the technological leader in the region.

from 2013

Change of management: Sven Grötschel hands over the operative management to Jane Ludwig on 01.01.2025, but remains with the company as managing director in an advisory capacity. A new chapter begins – with strong roots and a clear vision for the future. Grötschel – Simply better together.
